The Congress government on Saturday accused Akali leaders of “spiteful” attacks against it out of fear of exposure of their alleged financial and other misdeeds in the past 10 years.

The spokesperson alleged the Congress government’s move to probe various “misdemeanors” of the erstwhile SAD-BJP regime and to bring out a white paper on the state’s fiscal mess had unnerved the Akali leadership. Reacting to Badal’s remarks of not linking farm debt waiver with central funding, the spokesperson said chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had made it amply clear that he was committed to the waiver with or without support from the Modi government.
